Along dreamlike beaches
Always pedaling hard and passing gorgeous beaches, old Hanseatic towns and original fishing villages, the popular Baltic Coastal Cycle Route takes you right through the middle of Western Pomerania to the sea.
The crashing waves, the broad horizon and the powder-soft beaches of the Baltic Sea coasts accompany the cyclists on their way through the northern German Hanseatic towns, small fishing villages, meadows and forests.
At the gates of Lübeck's marzipan city, the bike tour begins through the dreamy hilly landscape of the Klützer Winkel to the UNESCO World Heritage city of Wismar. Along miles of dream beaches and wild cliffs, the route leads from Baltic seaside resort to Baltic seaside resort. On the steep bank, the route leads to the seaside resort of Warnemünde. On the other bank of the Warnow begins the Rostock Heath, a huge forest area that frames the Baltic resorts of Markgrafenheide and Graal-Müritz. With its colorful captain's houses and rustic Zees boats, Wustrow sets the mood for the wildly romantic Fischland-Darß-Zingst peninsula. A highlight is the former artists' colony of Ahrenshoop, whose thatched houses nestle in the gentle dune landscape. Through the Vorpommersche Boddenlandschaft National Park, the pedal knights follow the path to Rügen, Germany's largest island and a masterpiece created by nature. Once around the island, the route continues past the wildly romantic Cape Arkona, the legendary chalk chair and the flint fields near Sassnitz. Along the way are the Baltic resorts of Binz, Sellin and Goehren, where it is worth taking a look at the elegant villas of seaside resort architecture. The gigantic churches of the university and Hanseatic city of Greifswald greet their guests from afar. From the city's beautiful market square, it is not far to the Peene River, and in Wolgast the gates to the sunny island of Usedom are already opening. The last kilometers lead along dreamy fishing villages and green bays to the Polish border.
