Where is Greifswald located?
The university and Hanseatic city of Greifswald is located in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, not far from the islands of Rügen and Usedom. In about 40 km you can reach other Hanseatic cities, namely Stralsund and Anklam. West of the city, about 100 km further lies Rostock. Therefore, Greifswald is perfect to get to know Mecklenburg-Vorpommern comprehensively.
Sights
You will find numerous sights here. Besides the museum harbor, the Pomeranian State Museum or the Caspar David Friedrich Center (birthplace of the painter) directly in Greifswald, the surrounding countryside also invites you to explore. Many beautiful corners are just waiting to be declared your most beautiful destinations.
A trip to the Greifswalder Bodden and the nature stands located here is definitely recommended. Furthermore, there are some castles worth seeing here in Western Pomerania. You can even explore the baroque castle Griebenow and the castle Ludwigsburg on a bike tour from Greifswald. After you have seen the first destination, it is worthwhile to have a refreshment in the café of Griebenow Castle with homemade cake.
Tip: If you are even more interested in active excursions in nature, the large forests and wide meadows in the surrounding area offer plenty of room for discovery and leisurely hikes on the Pilgrims' Trail, the Hanseatic Trail, the Caspar-David-Friedrich-Bildweg and the European Long Distance Trail.
