The Trebel
Less known than the Recknitz, but no less beautiful! The idyllic river Trebel is becoming more and more popular with water hikers and anglers.
The river was first mentioned in a document in 1258 when Tribsees was granted town rights by Wizlaw II. Today, the river forms part of the southern border of the district of Vorpommern-Rügen and is a popular area for fishing and water sports vacations.
In Nehringen and Tribsees there are idyllic water hiking rest areas, which are ideal starting points for an eventful canoe tour. From Tribsees the river is navigable all year round. The many glacial valleys in Vorpommern cause the 70 km long Trebel to interconnect with several other bodies of water by ditches and streams. For example, there is a ditch connection to the Recknitz. In Demmin, the Trebel finally flows into the Peene. Because of its weak current, the Trebel is also very suitable for canoe beginners and families with children.
One thing is for sure: The Trebel is a beautiful blue ribbon that winds past interesting forest banks and green meadows through fractured landscapes and large marsh areas. Along the way, a distinctly interesting flora and fauna impresses.
