The Peene

The Peene rises near Gnoien in the Rostock district and flows into the Peenestrom . Along small and larger cities such as Gützkow, Loitz, Jarmen and the Hanseatic city of Anklam, the Peene winds through the idyllic nature of Western Pomerania.

The name Peene comes from the Slavic word and originally means "foamy river". Because of its large cross -sectional conditions, the low gradient and the associated low flow speed, the Peene is particularly suitable for a cozy paddle tour. Together explores the large nature and landscape protection area of the Peenetal from the water side. Many modern water hiking offices, e.g. B. in Stolpe, Anklam and Loitz make the river very popular with water sports enthusiasts.

On a walk, you can marvel at the cultural sights, such as the monastery ruins in Stolpe, the Wartislawstein or the historic Viking graves in Menzlin. The area around the Peenetal also finds the largest Lower Moor area in Europe. Along the course of the river, impressive beaver castles and a picturesque flora can be discovered. In addition, the Peene home is of many rare fish species, such as Steinbeißer and River nine -eye.

The Peenestrom

The 20 km long sea arm of the Baltic Sea connects the Stettiner Haff with the open Baltic Sea and creates an attractive landscape characterized by bays that invites you to a discovery tour.

Several outbumes such as the roller water, Spandowerhagener Wiek and Kumminer Wiek shape the appearance of the special rivers. The electricity from the Peene River, which flows near Anklam, got its name. With increased wind speeds, the Stettiner Haff is pressed from the Baltic Sea from time to time. This means that strong currents can occur at times in the Peenestrom. All water sports enthusiasts should prepare for rough weather.

Many different small yacht ports such as Freest , Kröslin , Peenemünde and Wolgast make the Peenestrom a popular sailing area. By the end of 2009, the Peenestrom was deepened as a sea water road to 7.50 m. This enables ships with severe supply loading. Peenestrom is also home to many species of birds and fish. The great abundance of fish causes the electricity to become a preferred habitat for water birds such as sea eagles, heron and cormorants.
