Gutshäuser Western Pomerania's shop in discoveries
How many manor houses are there in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania? Over 2,000 - what a German -wide record is. A considerable part of them is located in the Vorpommern region and today invites you to exciting encounters and discoveries with new usage concepts.
Baltic manor houses
The estate and mansion of the southern Baltic Sea region combines a unique common history of border shifts, political relationships but also war and displacement. Despite all the difficulties and upheavals, people in the hinterland of the southern Baltic Sea combine culture and tradition and centuries -old stone contemporary witnesses told past times and today's spatial pioneers that breathe new life into old walls.

New life in old walls
The influence of the numerous castles, manor and mansions still shapes the typical structures of the estate villages in the rural areas of Western Pomerania. The residents of the villages were and are still closely connected to the goods. Therefore, more and more the old walls are being renovated and fulfilled with new life.
Also in Western Pomerania, old estates with their estate and mansion were once centers of the manor. Today, these houses are kept alive with new forms of use, which means that this cultural heritage can be preserved. Some of them are used for tourism, for example as classic manor house hotels. Such an example is the Liepen estate in the Peenetal, where a spacious wellness area and regional cuisine encourage you to return. In addition, some manor houses in Western Pomerania are romantic wedding locations, such as: B. Gutshaus Stolpe or places of art and culture.

Kranich Museum & Hotel - Gutshof Hessenburg
The Kranich Museum & Hotel in Hessenburg/Saal is a refuge in which architecture, art and nature enter into a unique symbiosis. In the historic manor house and park, contemporary works of art by international artists come into a dialogue between art and landscape inside. Behind old walls, individually designed apartments with modern inner life, a sauna and light -flooded conference rooms invite you to relax.
The Vorpommer Boddenlandschaft is a paradise for cranes who take a break here twice a year on their travels between Spain and Scandinavia. The elegant birds also pulled the art historian Dr. Bettina Klein in the secluded region, which has made the Kranich Museum & Hotel surrounded by wide fields and old trees from a former estate from 1840: a very special retreat, in which you completely calm and back in contact with unadulterated nature and yourself can come yourself.
The premises were designed by the New York artist and architect Alex Schweder. The result of the cooperation is a total work of art that integrates museum and hotel areas, preserves the structural time zones of the past and linked it to the present.
The Kranich Hotel
The Kranich Hotel was opened in 2015. In addition to the six -loving and cozy hotel rooms on the ground floor of the manor house have recently been added to the six lovingly and cozy with antiques, cast iron stoves and free -standing bathtubs on the top floor of the manor house, in which the artistic interaction of different style elements is particularly beautiful.
In the historic cellar vault you can relax in a Finnish sauna.
Other apartments are located on the grounds of the estate: in the garden house, up to six people can comfortably shove and look directly into the 4.5 hectare park from the terrace. There is another apartment for up to four people in the attic of the former court smithy.
The Kranich Hotel offers light-flooded event rooms for conferences, workshops, yoga retreats, small celebrations and weddings. In the house there is a branch of the Barth registry office. In addition to the three rooms in the main building, the Pittoreske Kranich-Café in the former court smithy for private celebrations can also be booked.
The Kranich Museum
The Kranich Museum occupies the entire upper floor of the manor house at a total of 400 square meters. Since its opening in 2011, Bettina Klein has been inviting international artists as part of an artist-in-residence program supervised by Alex Schweder: inside, which is located on site in performative or installative work in dialogue with the property and its history, its surrounding landscape and- Of course - deal with the eponymous cranes. The works of art in this way become part of the museum collection. The documented process of work is distributed in the hotel rooms. This creates a flowing transition between the museum and the hotel.

Ludwigsburg Castle
The Renaissance Schloss Ludwigsburg was built in 1577 - 1592 as a widow's seat for Hedwig Sophie of Pomerania -Wolgast. After her death in 1631, the castle changed the owner several times until it was sold to the Greifswald merchant Weissenborn in 1810.
The Ludwigsburg district belongs to the municipality of Loissin and enthusiastically as a special destination with one of the last still preserved castles of the Pomeranian dukes in Germany
The Renaissance Schloss Ludwigsburg, idyllically located on the edge of the Greifswald Boddens, was on behalf of Ernst Ludwig, Herzog to Pommern-Wolgast, built for his wife Sophia Hedwig. It is largely preserved in the original. After the death of Sophia Hedwig in 1631, the facility changed the owner several times until it was sold to the Greifswald Kaufmann Weissenborn in 1810. After the expropriation of the Weissenborn family in 1945, the property fell into disrepair due to a lack of maintenance. Since 1997, the non-profit association has been trying to do the Ludwigsburg Schloss- und Gutshofanks. V. in cooperation with the Weissenborn family for the rescue of these historic gems. In the years 2020/21, parts of the property were adopted for a symbolic purchase price in the property of the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, which has been planning and executing
the historical importance of the place since then has not been limited to Pomeranian Duchy History. Friedrich August von Klinkowström was born on August 31, 1778 at Ludwigsburg Castle, a friend and companion of Caspar David Friedrich and Philipp Otto Runge, the two most important painters of North German romance. At the request of his father, an officer, Friedrich August von Klinkowström initially performed military service for eight years before he traveled to Dresden
in Dresden at the beginning of the 19th century at the side of the Greifswalder Caspar David Friedrich to study them. Acquaintance of Philipp Otto Runge from Wolgast. Later Runge was supposed to visit his heart friend Klinkowström in Ludwigsburg. So the castle is also a meeting place for the "romantic".
With its farm buildings, Ludwigsburg finally documents an agricultural estate at the turn of the 19th to the 20th century, as was typical for Pomerania at the time. The ensemble is rounded off by the small but fine palace chapel from 1708 - in its tower the oldest still functioning church tower clock strikes Vorpommern - as well as a wonderful castle park that invites you to linger.
The complete renovation of the Ludwigsburg Castle and Gutshof facility will take a few more years. In the meantime, not all parts of the system are accessible to visitors. Several times a year, the support association organizes a herbal and smoked market on the site in a very special atmosphere. Outside of these and other events, the support association will be happy to open the exhibitions during the season (April to September) by appointment.
Experience the story of the Vorpommerns up close using examples of old buildings and be inspired by the original nature!

Wolgast castle island
Former location of the Duke Castle.
On the Wolgaster Schlossinsel, the Dukes castle used to be in Pomerania-Wolgast. During the Thirty Years' War in the 17th century, a cannon ball hit the powder tower of the castle, so that only one ruin remained left that was removed in the 18th century. Stones of the castle ruin were also used for the reconstruction after the large city fire. Today the names of Schlossinsel and Schlossstraße as well as the scene there point to the former duke lock with explanations to the castle and the castle history.

Broock castle and manor system
Broock Castle, once a social center of the region and the largest private stud in Western Pomerania, will be expanded into a national conference and cultural center in the coming years. Since May 2023, our guests have been hosted in the new village shop with café bistro and beer garden.
Broock Castle was built for Major Christan Bogislaw von Linden as a great, late baroque manor house in the years 1770-77. The heir, Carl von Gentzkow, established horse breeding at the beginning of the 19th century, which was developed among his successors, the barons of Seckendorff, the largest private stud in Western Pomerania and until 1945.
In 1841-43 Friedrich August Stüler, the "master builder of the King of Prussia", received the order to convert the castle in the style of the so-called "Castle-Gothic". At the same time, the celebrated garden artist Peter Joseph Lenné delivered the plans for the redesign of the park into an English landscape garden. Broock was the social center and meeting point for the nobility of the entire region in the 19th century. Balls and elegant hunting societies changed.
In 1945 this was expropriated, refugee families quartered in the Castle, a consumption, a kindergarten, a school and the community office. In 1974 the municipality sold the castle to VEB Kranbau Eberswalde. The plans to set up a holiday home for employees were never executed.
In 2017, after 43 years of looting and decay, Schloss Broock GmbH & Co. KG became the owner of the facility and brought the idyllic place in the beautiful Tollensetal to a new life. With the support of the state of Mecklenburg -Western Pomerania, the Federal Republic of Germany - the Broock as a monument of particular national importance - and the German Foundation for Monument Protection began in 2018 with the emergency protection of the castle ruin. A national cultural and conference center will be created in Broock in the coming years. Concerts, festivals and private events are already taking place in the historic riding hall, where the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania Festival also guest.
After decades without consumption and restaurant in Broock, in May 2023 our village shop with café bistro, beer garden and regional products, was opened on the edge of the estate and is very popular with our guests.

Klempenow Castle
The Klempenow castle complex is the only preserved Niederungsburg in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. In the middle of the 13th century it was built by the Lower Saxony knights of those of Heydenbreck on behalf of the Duke of Pomerania and experienced an eventful history in the following centuries.
The castle was built in the middle of the 13th century by the Lower Saxony Knights of those of Heydebreck on behalf of the Pomeran Duke as a border fortification in the bogy primeval power on the confluence of Tollense and Landgraben and extensively redesigned in the 17th and 18th centuries. Since the 19th century, the facility fell into disrepair, after the Second World War, resettlers lived here. In 1991, the Kultur-Transit-96 Association set out to renovate the castle and revitalize the castle. Large parts of the castle are renovated and open to the public. An extensive cultural program of art exhibitions to child and youth offers, concerts to large, nationally known artisan markets in summer, autumn and in Advent. Some of the castle rooms are to be rented for private celebrations. Up to 30 civil marriages take place annually in the gallery rooms. A small shop at the entrance with beautiful gift ideas and homemade jams and pesto, the café in the castle for the small snack as well as for the catering of your private celebration and a canoe rental on the Tollense round off the offer. As a welcome center for the Mecklenburg Lake District, the castle is also able to support it regionally in individual vacation planning. The view from the tower to the ice age primeval power valleys of Tollense and Landgraben and a visit to the beautiful castle garden are always worth a trip.

Veste Landskron
The Ruin Veste Landskron with the southern tower that can be walked again is the most impressive castle ruin in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. Built in the 16th century, it became a ruin after the Thirty Years' War. Today you can visit the Veste and it is an ideal rest area for hikers and cyclists.
The Veste Landskron was built in 1576-1579 for Ullrich II of Schwerin, the son of Ullrich the I. (builder of Spantekow). The stately main building made of bricks and relatively small, non -hewn boulders had its walls over a deep basement three floors. The castle is 25 m long and 15 m wide.
The Veste was surrounded by a low ring wall and a steep sloping wall with moat. On the west side, the attachment was reinforced by five small bastions with stone chest weirs that have fallen into a fallen stone. To the east of the main building was the castle forecourt surrounded by a high wall. The palace chapel stood on its south side, on the east side a farm building. In the north there are still remnants of a gatehouse with an adjacent waxplate and the horse stables with wells. The castle complex was damaged in the Thirty Years' War. Landskron Ruin was already 100 years after the foundation. The protected trees of the ruin is particularly valuable. The stems on the wall on the Schlossplatz are certainly as old as the ruin with a trunk circumference of up to 4.50 m.

Hotel Schloss Neetzow
Finally out. In the natural heart of Western Pomerania.
Favorable for day trips to the region and the Baltic Sea resorts, Hotel Schloss Neetzow connects historical elegance with the amenities of today. Randomly richly decorated representation rooms and the sun terrace directed to the small lake with its landscape park meet on comfortably furnished guest rooms and suites.
The twittering of the birds, the buzzing of the bees and the warm hospitality of the grandchildren generation of the former family of manor family from Kruse invite his hotel guests to be good at a small bistro kitchen and a well -stocked wine cellar. All of this without Tam-Tam, Chi-Chi or even Bling-Bling-it is the simple things in life that delight the most.
The manor house, built around 1850 in Gothic style, is now one of the best preserved of its time in the region. The design comes from the Berlin architect Georg FH Hitzig, then student of the Prussian master builder Karl Friedrich Schinkel. Thanks to continuous use in the different epochs of contemporary history, the building with its opulent wall and ceiling decorations remained preserved for subsequent generations.
The extensive park around the castle was created by the imperial landscape planner Peter Joseph Lenné with a small lake and numerous foreign trees. After over 170 years of age, they have reached a stately size and have become welcome home for numerous birds to be observed.
Unfortunately, daily visits from interior of the castle are not possible in order to guarantee the need for rest of their hotel guests. Once a year, however, Neetzow's Castle opens to an interested public with its own program as part of the annual Midsummer Remise

Quilow water lock
Between Anklam, Greifswald and the island of Usedom, directly at the Peenetal Natural Park, the Quilow water lock is located over 450 year old. Built in 1575, today it is one of the few preserved mansions of the Renaissance in Western Pomerania and is considered a monument of national value.
After the reunification, the water castle fared for 30 years like many other manor houses in the region: vacancy, failed renovation efforts, decay. But the house could be saved and open its doors to visitors after extensive renovation and restoration work in 2020. Anyone who expects "Gutsherren-ambients" in the style of a supposedly good, old days must be prepared for a surprise. According to the concept of "glass monument preservation", parts of the castle show uses and designs from several centuries side and one. Old wounds and try to heal them are still recognizable. Some wall designs worth preserving is still waiting for exposure through patient restorer hands. The castle itself becomes an exhibit and at the same time offers inspiring rooms for workshops, art and much more.
Exhibition - a constant up and down:
Four sisters and a death, a gay ride master who finally finds his home, and a 27-year-old widow, who makes the best of 52 trains and 4 casser hookers: How did the Quilower estate economy change in four centuries? What did the life of the inventory look like? How that of the subordinates? And who or what are Kossaten please?
Portraits and snapshots, tiles and creams, inventory lists and cadastral cards, corpse sermons and personal memories report us about privileges and overwhelming duties, success and defeats of past times. Little by little, the visitor opens up a picture of the emergence and offense of the manorial and economy in one of the countless little Pomeranian Gutsdörfer.
