Rathaus Stralsund
The building built in the style of the North German brick Gothic, the construction of which goes back to the years 1300–1310, is one of the most important profane buildings in the Baltic Sea coast. The coat of arms of the neighboring Hanseatic cities indicate the importance of the Hanse for Stralsund above the large windows of the market front of the town hall. The swing gable is unique in the Baltic Sea area.
The shoveling allocation of the old town hall has been standing into the Stralsund sky for centuries and has thus become the symbol of the city. The most important profile of the German Baltic Sea coast still gives us fame and wealth of Hanseatic period. The Stralsund town hall was not only the seat of the Council and the site of the case law, but initially a building that was filled with lively business. The six -aisled, arched basement hall probably served as a Tuchhalle. Sales stalls were housed on the ground floor. The northern head building on the Old Markt with its famous show wall shows a two -aisled vault on the ground floor. The hall above, today Löwenscher Hall, was originally the meeting room of the city's upper class and is still the place where the city providers come together once a month to meet citizens' sessions.
Today business and gastronomy revive the area of the town hall that is accessible to everyone. Events take place regularly in the large vaulted cellar of the town hall. Above all, of course, the large artisan market as part of the Stralsund Christmas market.
Unfortunately, visits to the town hall are not possible.

A 15 -meter -long biodiversity wall recognizes the often underestimated biodiversity of the invertebrate sea animals such as octopus, jelly and crabs. Particularly popular objects, such as the leather turtle "Marlene", the five -meter -high original coral reef pillars from the Red Sea and the famous Finnwalkeleton in the choir can also be seen again after the modernization. The globe from the former entrance area is now used for a digital example with marine -related topics.

It is also the oldest museum in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. In three listed houses, exhibitions on prehistory and early history, city history, folklore and the naval history are presented. The most beautiful and most valuable exhibit is the gold jewelry from Hiddensee found in 1872 - 74.
The museum, founded in 1858, is at home in the former Dominican monastery of St. Katharinen, in the heart of the listed old town. There are two gold treasures from the Viking Age, the gold jewelry from Hiddensee is not only legendary, but also world famous. Artistic Stralsund Faience invite you to look and marvel, as well as rare medieval, church robes. Many other highlights tell from the eventful history of the once influential city on the sund, which it was called in the Middle Ages "... that it was a pearl in the crown of the Hanseatic League ...".
The largest and most beautiful space in the monastery is the summer remeter. This magnificent hall impresses with its wonderful architectural design, which also includes medieval vault painting.
A large variety of exhibits awaits the guest on the 1st floor. In addition to handicrafts, peeps and craftsmillers, there are primarily magnificent furniture from different eras. A special highlight are the astronomical and nautical instruments from the Axel Graf von Löwen collection, which, as a general governor for Swedish-Pomerania, bequeathed his unique collection to the Stralsunders, which also includes art objects of all kinds, in 1761 by will.

Stralsund Museum - Museum House
The 700 -year -old museum house has been part of the Stralsund Museum since its renovation by the German Foundation for Monument Protection. Here you can experience the history of the Hanseatic history up close from the basement to the roof of the old merchant and Krämerhaus. The building and usage history of the house has been restored and documented in detail. A must for every visit to the old town of Stralsund, which has been a UNESCO Welterberbe since 2002.
Everything is real here - you can feel that immediately in the 700 -year -old museum house. It offers a view behind the scenes and journey through time - unique in Germany. Because even dust and soot are preserved here. Above all, the Krämer and merchants of the Hanseatic League have left pure.
The hallway was alive: sacks and barrels were felled. The wooden cargo bike, which is still original, distributed them to the memory floors by rope elevator. All space was needed for goods. It was therefore used to it in the Kemladen, the extension in the courtyard. If you pull your head in, you can search for the house tree in the basement and find the pretty on the "pretty room" on the upper floor. What was cooked in the black kitchen and where do the artistic wallpaper come from? For the youngest guests there are coloring templates with the wallpaper patterns at the cash register.

Museum workshop playing card factory
The play card factory is more a workshop than a museum today. Work is also carried out on all historical machines, so that a lively impression of the working conditions can be conveyed in an old print shop. As a visitor, you can look over your shoulder or find out more in an exhibition.
In the 19th century it was shown that the production of playing cards in Stralsund was a profitable business, whereupon other activities were founded. In 1872, the three Stralsund playing card producers Ludwig Vd East, Ludwig Heidborn and Theodor Wegener merged into a stock corporation. The new name was united Stralsund playing cards - Fabrics Shares - Society Stralsund (VSS AG). The new company was now capitalize, was able to enlarge production, force other play card factories for bankruptcy and then buy them up.
The most important purchase for the future was that of the Lennhoff & Heuser play card factory, Frankfurt am Main, with which a large number of popular map images came to Stralsund. The commitment of the former co -owner Karl Heuser, who became director of VSS AG shortly after his move to Stralsund, in 1883, is thanks to the fact that it continued to expand and also produced in the Halle and Altenburg department after taking over further manufacturers. Meanwhile, modernized in Stralsund and the entire production was switched to cheaper book pressure from 1891/92. Despite further investments, it was forced to decide at the general meeting of February 14, 1931, to combine the two operations in Stralsund and Altenburg. The centrally located Altenburg was determined as the seat because in Stralsund no structural enlargement of the factory was no longer possible. Despite numerous efforts to keep the location in Stralsund, the negotiations to complete the Stralsund factory began in September 1931, as a result of which the location was abandoned. Today the play card factory is more workshop than a museum.

Marienkirche Stralsund
The Marienkirche, also called St. Marien, is the largest church in the city. From the 104 meter high tower (366 steps) of the Marienkirche you have a unique view over Stralsund to Rügen. And our tours are also in great demand.
The Marienkirche was first mentioned as the largest parish church of Stralsund in 1298. The original building was destroyed in 1382 when the tower collapses. In today's form it was built in the period 1384 - 1478. The imposing west work, it was built from 1416, is without parallel in contemporary architecture. It is assembled from two side halls and the outstanding mid -tower that four small stair towers flank. The main tower wore a pointed helmet until 1647, with which the church had a considerable amount of 151 m. With these 151 meters, the Marienkirche was the highest building in the world until 1647. A fire caused by lightning strikes destroyed the Gothic top tower and it was replaced in the style of time by a significantly lower baroque hood.
The current 104 m high baroque tower helmet dates from 1708. The Marienkirche is the youngest Gothic brick basilica in the Nordic area. It has a polygonal choral process with a chapel wreath. The three -aisle transept is unusual. The interior impresses with its size. It is 96 m long, 41 m wide and 32.95 m high in the central nave. The Marienkirche is thus - after the Marienkirche too Gdansk - to be regarded as the second largest brick church in the Hanseraum. 1807-1810 the church served the French occupation troops as barracks and hayagazine. Little could be preserved from the original equipment. The most precious possession of the church is the baroque organ, created in 1659 by the Lübeck organ builder Friedrich Stellwagen. Furthermore, the tombstones and the epitaphs in the choral range and transept, the baroque baptismal housing from 1738, the tomb of the Count of Lilljenstedt, the marble shop and the three Renaissance crown candlestore. And if you finally add the 366 steps of the 104 m high tower, you have a fan -sized look. Various organ concerts take place all year round.
Monday to Friday at 1 p.m. and Saturday at 11:00 a.m. during the season (July - September), invite our sexton or volunteers
to a short tour of the church. On Tuesdays and Fridays at 3 p.m.

St. Nikolai Stralsund
The oldest of the three parish churches in Stralsund is the monumental St. Nikolaikirche on the Old Market. With its two imposing organs, Buchholz and Schuke, it is one of the most beautiful sacred buildings in Northern Europe.
"The construction is first mentioned in the city register in 1276 and is consecrated to the patron saint of seafarers, St. Nicholas. Converted to the basilica with the imposing double survey. wanted to express.
The helmets that once adorned the towers fell victim to a devastating fire in 1662. In 1667 the southern tower was given the baroque hood, with which the church reached a height of 103 meters, and the north tower the so -called emergency roof. In the following centuries the copper roof and parts of the masonry were replaced. Numerous art treasures of various centuries have been preserved inside. One of the oldest art treasures by the Nikolaikirche is the almost two and a half meter high monumental sculpture "Anna self -thirds", one of the most important large sculptures in the Baltic Sea area of that time. Some of the old altars are still preserved, including the Gothic high altar, the baroque separator according to a design by Andreas Schlüter and the pulpit from 1611. The altars of the mountains and the Nowgorod drivers testify to the lively seagoing trade at the time of the Hanseatic League. The astronomical clock from 1394 is one of the few preserved specimens of this type of watch.
