Museum Rungehaus
The Museum Rungehaus is the birthplace of the painters and romantics Philipp Otto Runge (1777-1810). In addition to Caspar David Friedrich, he is considered one of the most important painters and graphic artists of German romance.
During his birthplace in Wolgast, his way of life in the Hamburg Kunsthalle is found in Wolgast. In addition to painting, Runge made a decisive contribution to the three -dimensional color theory, designed playing cards and wrote down the first fairy tales in Germany. The best known - "from the fisherman and his wife" - was added to the Grimm brothers' collection.
Route of North German Romantic: Rungehaus Wolgast - The birthplace of Runges
Philipp Otto Runge was born on July 23, 1777. Like Friedrich August von Klinkowström, he had ten siblings. Already in his early childhood, his teacher, the poet Ludwig Gotthard Kosegarten, was recognized and promoted at the Wolgaster school. After an apprenticeship in Hamburg, Runge decided in 1799 to study art in Copenhagen. After his return, he met Caspar David Friedrich and also moved to Dresden. Runge nevertheless spent several years in Wolgast, where he developed his theory of three -dimensional color theory. One of his most famous works "Wilhelmine Helwig" is located in the Pomeranian State Museum in Greifswald.

Stadthafen Wolgast
The Wolgast city harbor spreads an impressive maritime flair. Passenger ships start on excursions into the roller water and to the Greifswald Bodden. The "White Dune" sailing ship invites guests to drive. The viewer offers a sensational view of the Petrikirche and city center. The imposing folding bridge to the island of Usedom and the Peenewerft shape the city on the Peenestrom.
The city harbor in Wolgast is the place of departure for the classic harbor tours, ship trips on the roller water or the Peene stream. Here are the leisure captains with their houseboats and sailing yachts. At around 100 attempts per year, you also have the chance to observe the large river cruise ships from the Peenbrücke or put on and off. All year round, fish restaurants often invite you to a meal with live music and view of the water. Every year to the Wolgaster Hafenagen days on the first weekend in July, Hafenstraße turns into a maritime stroll mile with a lot of hustle and bustle and various demonstrations on and in the water.
Route of North German Romantic: Hafen Wolgast - two painters - A motif
of the city harbor Wolgast conveys a maritime flair. Such motifs were of particular interest for romantics and were happy to be shown in pictures. As a hometown of Runges, it is not surprising that he settled at the port for a drawing. In 1806 the picture "Landscape on the Peene" was taken. A ship with a Swedish flag was clearly shown here. Caspar David Friedrich also took the opportunity to draw at the Wolgaster harbor during his honeymoon in 1818. He often visited the city of Wolgast during his home stay, as sketches of the remains of the Volgaster Castle at the time.

The three -linden base
On the Peenestrom in the Tannenkamp district in Wolgast you drive on the route of the North German Romanticism along the Drelindengrund. The name was given by the jetty at which the transfer of the fallen Swedish King Gustav II Adolf took place in 1633 during the Thirty Years' War. Three linden trees were planted for him. The small forest nearby was named Gustav-Adolf-Gorge.
From the direction of Greifswald along the Baltic Sea cycle path, the path leads along the Wolgast Tannenkamp zoo and to the Dreilindengrund. A bathing area at the Gustav Adolfs Gorge invites you to linger and along the Peenestrom you have a wonderful view of the "blue miracle", the bridge to the island of Usedom. At the height of the "Grummkreisel" daycare center there is an information board for the route of North German Romantic.
Route of North German Romance: Wolgast - The Hiktadt Runges
Philipp Otto Runge was born in Wolgast in 1777. He is considered a very versatile romantic. His drawing talent was recognized early on. As a painter, he mainly concentrated the portrait. He often drew his family and good friends, including Friedrich August von Klinkowström 1808. In addition, Runge dominated the silhouette and is considered the creator of the three -dimensional color theory. During his short life, he was only 33 years old, he also created play card motifs.

Freest fishing port
The fishing village of Freest is located directly at the Peenemunund to the Greifswald Bodden and houses the largest fishing port in MV. Every 5th fish in MV is caught here, mostly they are pegs, flounders and cod. The oldest smokehouse in front of the Pomerania is also near the port. From May to October, guests can translate to the island of Usedom every hour to Peenemünde. Bicycle treatment is also possible.
1995-2005 the port was renovated with EU funds. 26 fishing huts were set up on the quays. A functional building with sanitary facilities was part of the overall project. In this there is also a branch of the pilot and the German Society for the rescue of shipwrecked. Adjacent are restaurants that complement the offer from the fish, ice cream and coffee and cake.
Converted fishing cutters drive with visitors on the bodden and the island. A wheel and pedestrian ferry takes visitors to the island of Usedom and Retour. A visit to the Historical-Technical Museum in Peenemünde is worthwhile there.
The Freester Fischerfest takes place every year in August.
You buy fresh fish in the early morning directly from the fisherman or enjoy it on site in one of the restaurants that have both traditional and more unusual fish specialties on offer. In addition, you will get an insight into typical regional handicrafts when visiting the Freest and the local museum.
Fishing carpets freest
Freester fishing carpets, also called "Perser of the Baltic Sea", is a traditional craftsmanship from Pomerania, which was linked as additional earnings, especially in the global economic crisis of the 20s in fishing villages. Each carpet is unique and consists of thousands of hand -knotted knots.
Route of North German Romance: Fischerdorf Freeet - Romantic Travel
An old, unpaved country road connected the towns of Wolgast, Katzow, Boltenhagen, Rappenhagen and Kemnitz. In bad weather or in winter, this path was difficult to drive. Runge therefore occasionally made his way to Ludwigsburg or Greifswald on foot. Like Caspar David Friedrich, probably during his honeymoon, he crossed the Fischerdorf Freest. Fishing plays a major role here: Salt huts, smoking and fishing nets also distinguish this place today.

Bathing beach freest
The beach in Fischerdorf Freest is ideal for sunbathing and also has a flat child -friendly shore with a small playground. Right behind the dune is the Freest fishing port, where there is fresh and processing fish. There is something for everyone from the matjes, backfish to the incense.
The village of Freest can be found on the mainland 10 km north of Wolgast near the mouth of the Peenestrom in the Baltic Sea. The view from the beach to the muzzle area and the opposite Peenemünde can be described as a real pleasure. The beach is ideal for sunbathing and also has a flat child -friendly shore with a small playground. Dogs are not allowed on the beach.

Heimatmuseum Freest
The small museum houses a collection of various items of everyday objects, which were part of everyday life in fishing and agriculture and were brought together by the residents of the place into a lovingly arranged exhibition. The well -known freester fishing carpets are particularly worth seeing.
The idea for the Heimatstube had the teacher and freestern school director Erich Mundstock decades ago. He collected many objects of everyday life from past times. In 1962 Erich Mundstock founded the Heimatstube in the Freester School and gave his collection such a permanent place. With his death in 1987, the original Heimatstube was closed. After the political turn in the GDR, the former customs house used for decades was handed over to the municipality of Kröslin. In 1992 the Freester Heimatstube was reopened in the rooms of the building. Today it includes seven rooms for permanent exhibitions and rooms for exchange exhibitions and lectures. Guests of the local museum can go on a journey through time to an old living room and a kitchen, as well as a bedroom and a school room. All objects, including dolls and doll cars, a sewing room and a hairdressing room, were donated by people from the region.
However, the most famous exhibits in the local museum are the freester fishing carpets. Made by residents of the community, every carpet tells its own story.

Permanent exhibition on the poet Karl Gottlieb Lappe
Karl Gottlieb Lappe - an almost forgotten poet (1773-1843). A constant exhibition in Wusterhusen near the Lubmin seaside resort is located in the rectory of the Johanneskirche Wusterhusen. Here the life and work of the poet Karl Lappe is documented, and readings bring the works of the poet closer.
Karl Gottlieb Lappe was born on April 23, 1773 in Wusterhusen as the pastor's son. To prepare for a degree, he attended the city school in Wolgast, whose rector was none other than Ludwig Gotthard Kosegarten (1758-1818). Kosegarten, teacher, pastor, history professor and poet, recognized and promoted the talents of his students, which, in addition to Karl Gottlieb Lappe, also Philipp Otto Runge (1777-1810), the important painter of romance. At the Greifswald University, where Lappe studied theology, philology and philosophy, he made friends with Ernst Moritz Arndt (1769-1860), which also existed beyond the years of study.
In 1798 Lappe succeeded Ernst Moritz Arndt as a tutor at Kosegarten in Altenkirchen on Rügen. From 1801 to 1817 Lappe was a teacher at the Stralsund high school. For health reasons, he finally pulled back into the idyllic pütte, at Stralsund. Lappe died in Stralsund on October 28th.

Route of North German Romanticism: rectory Wusterhusen - romantic poetry
In Lappe's extensive work, everyday and political events are reflected as well as his deep love for the Pomeranian homeland. In the Karl Lappe exhibition in the rectory, a map shows which places he visited and also described them in his poems. Some of his poems were set to music by Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1828), Franz Schubert (1797-1828) and Robert Schumann (1810-1856).

Johanniskirche Wusterhusen
The Johanniskirche Wusterhusen in Western Pomerania originally dates from the 13th century. The father of the home poet Karl-Gottlieb Lappe was a pastor here. There is an exhibition on Lappe in the rectory opposite the church. Caspar David Friedrich noted the place Wusterhusen from his drawing "View from the south coast of Rügen" here can be seen the top of the church tower.
The church in Wusterhusen was built in the 13th century and expanded to a three -aisled hall with a west tower at the beginning of the 15th century. Worth seeing inside the church are the baptismal stone (13th century), the altar (15th century) and the medieval paintings. A visit is possible from May September on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and on request in the parish office.
Worth seeing is the magnificent star vault and paintings exposed in restorations.

Lubmin pier
The Lubmin seaside resort with its 350 m long pier, a wide child -friendly sandy beach and picturesque, quaint pine forests offers calm and nature as well as ideal conditions for a family vacation.
Lubmin is not only a real insider tip as a holiday and travel destination. A five -kilometer -long bathing beach with solid, fine -grained sand and flat water offers ideal conditions for a vacation with young children and family. The pine forest, which extends behind the beach, holds the wind off the attractive cliff and offers a wonderful view of the pier. The surrounding area and the beach are also ideal for cycling and foot hikes. The newly renovated great beach promenade is also a very popular excursion and recreation destination. It is an attractive eye -catcher between the remarkable elegant old villas, the wonderful pine forest and the infinitely long white sandy beach. Numerous hotels, holiday apartments of each category and motorhome parking spaces directly on the beach leave nothing to be desired. Restaurants and shops are also located near the pier.
Route of North German Romanticism: Sebad Lubmin - The coast in Friedrich's field of view
The landmark of the Lubmin seaside resort is the 350 meter long pier reaching into the Bodden. Lubmin is the only seaside resort in the Greifswald Bodden and a popular holiday destination for families. At that time most of the residents of the village were farmers, there was no sufficient sea bay for a beach fishing. In 1801, Caspar David Friedrich went on the first trip. In his picture "View from the south coast of Rügen", in addition to the villages of Wusterhusen, Wolgast and the island, he also noted the Prussian side and thus made a differentiation to Swedish-Pomerania. The seaside resort of Lubmin is not mentioned by name, although it already existed on cards at that time. It was probably because Lubmin and Wusterhusen lie on the same airline from its focus.

The Teufelsstein in Lubmin
The Teufelsstein is a boulder in the Greifswald Bodden at Lubmin. In 1909 he was above the cliff. It serves as a fixed point for measuring the decline in the coast. He is a popular photo motif on a hike along the cliff coast to Vierow and on the high bank back to the Lubmin seaside resort.
Its length is 6 m, the width 3.6 m and the height 3.0 m. With a circumference of 16.9 m it has a volume of 34 m³. It consists of granite. A small hike along the beach in the Lubmin seaside resort leads to the legendary stone.
According to the Devil, the devil from Rügen threw the stone to the Wusterhusen church. The church stopped and the stone broke into two parts and fell to the beach. Even today, the devil's back of the hand can be seen on the surface.

Nature beach Vierow
Not far from the small industrial port of Vierow and approx. 2 km from the village of Vierow, you can reach the Naturstrand Vierow on a hiking and bike path. Lined with small and large stones and protected by an approx. 1 to 3 meter high cliffs is the south coast of Rügen with Zu dar and peninsula Mönchgut in sight. Caspar-David Friedrich already looked at the island of Rügen and drew fishing boats on the beach.
Those who want to go to chicken gods, petrified witnesses of past times and of course amber, who bumps the three kilometers along the natural beach from the Lubmin seaside resort towards Vierow harbor or turned around. It is a circuit when you decide to walk along the beach, past the large Teufelsstein (a granite block in the water) and the back tour along the high bank on the small hiking trail with a view of the Greifswald Bodden.
In spring and autumn, migratory birds rest in the shallow water of the bodden and collect for the trip.
Route of Northern German Romance: Hafen Vierow - Friedrich's honeymoon
The village of Vierow was a small farmers and Büdnerdorf at the beginning of the 19th century with access to the Greifswald Bodden. People lived from fishing in the sideline. An indication of this gives a drawing by Caspar David Friedrich on June 03, 1818. The drawing on the beach shows two fishing boats and dried nets. He used this as the basis for other coastal paintings. During this time he was on a honeymoon with his wife Christiane Caroline Bommer. They visited Friedrich's home and the surrounding area, including the cities of Neubrandenburg, Wolgast, Greifswald and next to the island of Rügen, also small towns such as Vierow.
The current location of the drawing is already located in the Greifswald Bodden due to the strong coastal erosion. If you stand on the beach and look over the Greifswald Bodden you can understand the fascination that exerts the water and the coast.

Nature beach Ludwigsburg
The beach in Ludwigsburg is a popular destination for vacationers and locals in the area. On hot summer days you will find a shady spot among the pines of the coastal forest and a small rustic restaurant offers a solid range of dishes and drinks. The homemade cake is highly recommended. For kite and surf enthusiasts, the beach and the flat water of the Danish Wiek and the Greifswald Bodden offer the best conditions.
The beach is located about three kilometers outside the village, directly on the Danish Wieck. Ideally to reach by bike via a traffic -calmed road. The Baltic Sea coast bike path leads here. The guarded parking lot costs two euros a day.
The beach is very nice with a lot of sand and partial grass growth. From here you have a wonderful view over the Bodden on the Silhouette Greifswald and the harbor.
The cozy restaurant with a large terrace invites you to warm kitchen and cold ice. From May to October, this has opened for you every day. In the colder season is up on weekends.
Toilet use is also possible. There is a large playground for the little ones and plenty of space to romp.

Ludwigsburg Castle
The Renaissance Schloss Ludwigsburg was built in 1577 - 1592 as a widow's seat for Hedwig Sophie of Pomerania -Wolgast. After her death in 1631, the castle changed the owner several times until it was sold to the Greifswald merchant Weissenborn in 1810.
The Ludwigsburg district belongs to the municipality of Loissin and enthusiastically as a special destination with one of the last still preserved castles of the Pomeranian dukes in Germany
The Renaissance Schloss Ludwigsburg, idyllically located on the edge of the Greifswald Boddens, was on behalf of Ernst Ludwig, Herzog to Pommern-Wolgast, built for his wife Sophia Hedwig. It is largely preserved in the original. After the death of Sophia Hedwig in 1631, the facility changed the owner several times until it was sold to the Greifswald Kaufmann Weissenborn in 1810. After the expropriation of the Weissenborn family in 1945, the property fell into disrepair due to a lack of maintenance. Since 1997, the non-profit association has been trying to do the Ludwigsburg Schloss- und Gutshofanks. V. in cooperation with the Weissenborn family for the rescue of these historic gems. In the years 2020/21, parts of the property were adopted for a symbolic purchase price in the property of the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, which has been planning and executing
the historical importance of the place since then has not been limited to Pomeranian Duchy History. Friedrich August von Klinkowström was born on August 31, 1778 at Ludwigsburg Castle, a friend and companion of Caspar David Friedrich and Philipp Otto Runge, the two most important painters of North German romance. At the request of his father, an officer, Friedrich August von Klinkowström initially performed military service for eight years before he traveled to Dresden
in Dresden at the beginning of the 19th century at the side of the Greifswalder Caspar David Friedrich to study them. Acquaintance of Philipp Otto Runge from Wolgast. Later Runge was supposed to visit his heart friend Klinkowström in Ludwigsburg. So the castle is also a meeting place for the "romantic".
With its farm buildings, Ludwigsburg finally documents an agricultural estate at the turn of the 19th to the 20th century, as was typical for Pomerania at the time. The ensemble is rounded off by the small but fine palace chapel from 1708 - in its tower the oldest still functioning church tower clock strikes Vorpommern - as well as a wonderful castle park that invites you to linger.
The complete renovation of the Ludwigsburg Castle and Gutshof facility will take a few more years. In the meantime, not all parts of the system are accessible to visitors. Several times a year, the support association organizes a herbal and smoked market on the site in a very special atmosphere. Outside of these and other events, the support association will be happy to open the exhibitions during the season (April to September) by appointment.
Experience the story of the Vorpommerns up close using examples of old buildings and be inspired by the original nature!

Holy Cross Church Kemnitz
The Holy Cross Church Kemnitz looks back on a long tradition. In the rectory Kemnitz, right next to the church, there is a small exhibition on the painter Friedrich August von Klinkowström. In the baptismal register the entry for the birth of the later painter, educator and writer. The theme cycle path "Route of North German Romantic", which runs from Greifswald to Wolgast, leads to the sites of this painter of romance.
The Kemnitz church was built around 1300. The Eldena Monastery promoted the establishment of the church, which has been expanded several times in the following centuries, but was also difficult to destroy. The church received its current appearance in the middle of the 18th century. The neo -Gothic church tower with its four small corner tower was built in the 19th century. The church is under monument protection. The Heilig-Kreuz-Kirchen are consecrated or named after the Holy Cross on which Jesus died or named after him. In Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania there are three other churches with this name. In Rambin on Rügen, in Rostock and in Waren.

Milning ruins Eldena
The monastery ruins with the park is a popular excursion destination for the Greifswald and its guests. The monastery ruins is also the start and target point to the theme cycle path "Route of North German Romantic", the stations and lives of the North German romantics of Western Pomerania.
With his paintings and drawings, Caspar David Friedrich (1774-1840) made the ruin of the medieval Cistercian monastery Eldena widely known. The remains of the once important monastery are embedded in a park with an old tree population, including 180-year-old oaks, which shape Friedrich's ideas and shape the romantic atmosphere of the facility. The main accent of the ruin is the imposing west facade of the former monastery church with the high pointed -arched window opening.
The Hilda (Eldena) monastery was founded in 1199 after Cistercian monks had to give up their monastery in Dargun in a row. The new monastery was built east of the later town of Greifswald, at the mouth of the Ryck river into the Danish Wiek. In 1248, the “Oppidum Gripheswald” was first mentioned in a document under the possessions of the monastery and in 1250 the city rights were awarded to today's Greifswald. The monastery ruin is located in the Eldena district, in the immediate vicinity of the Fischerdorf Wieck and the Greifswald Bodden.
In the Middle Ages, Eldena was the most important monastery in the region, the economic and spiritual center of the area and reached its heyday around 1400. It was structured from the early 13th century to the beginning of the 15th century. The monastery existed until the Reformation movement in the region in 1533 and subsequently refused.
In 1634, the University of Greifswald from the last Pomeranian Duke Bogislaw XIV received the office of Eldena and thus the monastery grounds and associated lands. After looting in the Thirty Years' War by Imperial and Swedish troops, the remains of the medieval monastery complex fell more and more. Since the second half of the 17th century, they have even been used as a quarry for fortress and Greifswald university buildings.
The rescue of the facility is largely thanks to the intervention of the romantic ideas of Prussian Crown Prince Friedrich Wilhelm (1795–1861, later King Friedrich Wilhelm IV.). In 1827 he found the ruin in a neglected state. As a result, from 1828-1832 the first clean-up and renovation work and a park to open up the site took place. Instead of the lack of long house pillars of the nave, oaks were set. The merger of the eternal recurring nature with the venerable structural testimonies of an irretrievable past time carries a profound symbolism, which also captivates today's visitors at all years and times of the year.
Caspar David Friedrich, born in Greifswald in 1774, made the monastery ruin Eldena world famous. He is now the most important painter and draftsman of German early romance and used sketches of the monastery ruins in his paintings "Winter", "Monastery ruins in the Giant Mountains" and "Abbey in the Eichwald". Some of his works are exhibited in the Pomeranian State Museum. In the Caspar David Friedrich Center in the Greifswald city center you can experience the life and work of the painter impressively.
The expansion of the Office of the Office and the establishment of an agricultural academy in 1835, which existed until 1876, must be emphasized from the retrofitting history of the facility. The still existing monastery buildings were also used for agriculture.
The monastery ruin has been owned by the University and Hanseatic City of Greifswald since 1937. Nowadays the monastery ruin and the surrounding park is a popular local recreation area, landmark of the city and backdrop for film recordings and various events. In summer, theater performances, the Eldena monastery market (since 2014), the Jazz Festival Eldenaer Jazz Evenings (since 1981) and other concerts and events take place. The monastery ruin is a station on the Caspar David Friedrich Bildweg and the European Route of Brick Gothic.

Route of the North German Romance: Klosterruine Eldena-Friedrich's favorite motif
Caspar David Friedrich was on September 5th Born in Greifswald in 1774 and is considered the most important painter and draftsman of the German early romanticism. In his paintings "Winter" and "Abbey in the Eichwald", he used sketches of the Eldena monastery ruin as templates and made them world -famous. During his home visits, Caspar David Friedrich always rediscovered the architecture of the monastery ruins. He drew them from all perspectives. The high west facade was of particular interest to him, it forms the center of many of his works. Through his pictures, the ruin came into the focus of the public. Here is the start or destination of the theme wheel route "Route of North German Romantic".

With the finding of these treasures, multi -layered processes of recovery begin: Who can keep the "Viking gold"? Where is it shown? Who identifies themselves? Who differentiates themselves? And how do these processes change over time? The exhibition "Treasury Policy" shows that appropriations of cultural heritage and delimitation are politically charged.

Church of St. Marien Greifswald
The church of St. Marien is a parish church in the middle of the old town of Greifswald. The church of St. Marien can be visited after the Sunday service until 1 p.m. The following opening times apply in the months of June, July and August: Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. For church tours you can register in the church office or in the church.
The start of construction for the St. Marien Church, which is also called the "thick Marie" by the Greifswaldern, is probably in the middle of the 13th century. Together with the other two city churches St. Nikolai and St. Jacobi, the first mentioned in 1280. The church was built as a hall church and is now one of the most impressive testimonies of North German brick gothic. Worth seeing inside the church are the medieval court hall, the large cargo tread in the tower, the memory chapel, the altarpiece - a replica of Correggios "Holy Night" and the richly decorated pulpit (16) . Century).

Caspar-David-Friedrich-Blick
To date, the outlook that Caspar David Friedrich held in "Wiesen near Greifswald" around 1820 is almost unchanged. The painting with the silhouette of the Hanseatic city behind lush green pastures hangs in the Hamburg Kunsthalle - the original scene, as Caspar David Friedrichs saw her, can be modeled here in the middle of nature.
Due to the development and planting, it is now hidden, but still to be guessed through the church towers of St. Nikolai, St. Jakobi and St. Marien - Caspar David Friedrich's view of the sketch for "Wiesen near Greifswald". He looked at the silhouette of the Hanseatic city from a northwest direction, roughly where the new cemetery is today. The resulting painting is world famous today and is exhibited in the Hamburg Kunsthalle.
The lush green meadows have not changed at the gates in the city, which still serve as pastures. The Ryck makes its way through the green. Here you can not only enjoy the peace and view, but also take a walk or a little hike.
It is best to experience the life and work of the romantician on the Caspar-David-Friedrich Bildweg in and around his birthplace Greifswald. The Hanseatic city can get to know the Hanseatic City from a romantic perspective by bike or on foot in the footsteps of Caspar-David-Friedrich. Within 15 stations, you can follow the artistic-romantic path of the most important landscape painter of romance and be enchanted by him with signs and information boards. Stations of the image path are, for example, the birthplace, which today houses the Caspar-David-Friedrich-Zentrum or the Pomeranian State Museum, in which numerous works by the painter are to be viewed in the original.

Rügen bridge
The new Rügen bridge is not a monument, but a significant landmark of the Hanseatic city of Stralsund.
After a three -year construction period (August 2004 to October 2007), the Rügen Bridge was opened by Chancellor Angela Merkel at the end of 2007. Construction costs amounted to around 125 million euros. With a total length of 4,097 meters (including 2,831 meters of bridge construction), the three -lane bridge, the largest island in Germany, connects to the mainland. It relieves the Rügendamm, which was the only connection to the island until then. At peak times, this measures a vehicle volume of 30,000 vehicles daily. The two pylons of the inclined cable bridge are 127.75 meters and, with the curved, form a sailing yacht. In addition, the largest diagonal bridge in Germany is 42 m high and thus forms an ideal transfer height for international shipping traffic.

Sea Museum Stralsund
The sea museum in Stralsund's old town has had its domicile in the former Dominican monastery of St. Katharinen since 1951. It is the oldest of several locations of the German Sea Museum.
The oldest location of the German Sea Museum has its domicile in the former Dominican monastery of St. Katharinen. In the newly opened exhibition area, numerous exhibits and modern stations present the development of life from the sea and its diversity, shed light on the interactions between humans and sea and show strategies for sustainable fishing. New airy showcases run like gentle waves over two floors. On the upper floor, high -level habitats with prepared and modeled animals trace the path from Antarctic to the Arctic. A 15 -meter -long biodiversity wall recognizes the often underestimated biodiversity of the invertebrate sea animals such as octopus, jelly and crabs. Particularly popular objects, such as the leather turtle "Marlene", the five -meter -high original coral reef pillars from the Red Sea and the famous Finnwalkeleton in the choir can also be seen again after the modernization. The globe from the former entrance area is now used for a digital example with marine -related topics.
The newly opened exhibitions in the Marine Museum will be supplemented in 2025 with an aquarium trip through the underwater world of the tropical seas.

Stralsund Museum - Museum House
The 700 -year -old museum house has been part of the Stralsund Museum since its renovation by the German Foundation for Monument Protection. Here you can experience the history of the Hanseatic history up close from the basement to the roof of the old merchant and Krämerhaus. The building and usage history of the house has been restored and documented in detail. A must for every visit to the old town of Stralsund, which has been a UNESCO Welterberbe since 2002.
Everything is real here - you can feel that immediately in the 700 -year -old museum house. It offers a view behind the scenes and journey through time - unique in Germany. Because even dust and soot are preserved here. Above all, the Krämer and merchants of the Hanseatic League have left pure.
The hallway was alive: sacks and barrels were felled. The wooden cargo bike, which is still original, distributed them to the memory floors by rope elevator. All space was needed for goods. It was therefore used to it in the Kemladen, the extension in the courtyard. If you pull your head in, you can search for the house tree in the basement and find the pretty on the "pretty room" on the upper floor. What was cooked in the black kitchen and where do the artistic wallpaper come from? For the youngest guests there are coloring templates with the wallpaper patterns at the cash register.

Rathaus Stralsund
The building built in the style of the North German brick Gothic, the construction of which goes back to the years 1300–1310, is one of the most important profane buildings in the Baltic Sea coast. The coat of arms of the neighboring Hanseatic cities indicate the importance of the Hanse for Stralsund above the large windows of the market front of the town hall. The swing gable is unique in the Baltic Sea area.
The shoveling allocation of the old town hall has been standing into the Stralsund sky for centuries and has thus become the symbol of the city. The most important profile of the German Baltic Sea coast still gives us fame and wealth of Hanseatic period. The Stralsund town hall was not only the seat of the Council and the site of the case law, but initially a building that was filled with lively business. The six -aisled, arched basement hall probably served as a Tuchhalle. Sales stalls were housed on the ground floor. The northern head building on the Old Markt with its famous show wall shows a two -aisled vault on the ground floor. The hall above, today Löwenscher Hall, was originally the meeting room of the city's upper class and is still the place where the city providers come together once a month to meet citizens' sessions.
Today business and gastronomy revive the area of the town hall that is accessible to everyone. Events take place regularly in the large vaulted cellar of the town hall. Above all, of course, the large artisan market as part of the Stralsund Christmas market.
Unfortunately, visits to the town hall are not possible.

Dänholm island
The island of Dänholm is a small island with a lot of history. Already used militarily under the Swedes, the Dänholm was expanded to the cradle of the Prussian Navy.
The small island of Strale or Strela, which was immediately upstream of the city of Stralsund, created a natural harbor, which the seafaring peoples have always valued. It is already mentioned in 1288 in the 1st city book. Due to the lively shipping traffic of the Danes in the 12th and 13th centuries in the waters around Rügen and before Stralsund, but in particular in connection with the defeat of a Danish fleet in 1326 near the island, it was probably renamed Dänholm.
The well -known, changing history of the island is predominantly militarily shaped. The first secure documents and plans for fastening systems on the island have been handed down from the time of the Thirty Years' War. In 1628 Wallenstein, as the then imperial general on behalf of the German emperor, granted the command to secure and fasten all ports of the Baltic Sea due to the lack of his own fleet, which was to create a counterweight to the strengthening Swedish Empire.
The Swedish military was also well aware of the favorable location of the island. After the 1628 ratified alliance contract between the city and the Kingdom of Sweden, it began with the immediate improvement and the expansion of the existing fastening systems and tried to control the strelasund and control of the city using new fortifications. For Stralsund, the Swedish era ended on June 7, 1815.

Naval museum
The Marinemuseum is located within a historic fortress on the island of Dänholm, the cradle of the Prussian Navy. You can see a marine helicopter, torpedo box boats, ship models, mine clearance units and other objects from the Marine -History collection of the Stralsund Museum.
The Marinemuseum is a branch of the Stralsund Museum on the island of Dänholm. The small island on the Rügendamm was strategically significant during Stralsund's siege in the Middle Ages. Here later the birth for the Prussian Navy hit. Sea forces from the German Reich and the GDR were also stationed here. In the former barracks and on the open -air area, surrounded by the walls of the historic star hill, you can immerse yourself in the naval history since 1992. Numerous original objects from military seafaring such as uniforms, equipment, weapons, models as well as photos, films and documents are shown. On the open -air area, the bright blue original of a naval helicopter and a torpedo box boat are an attractions. In 2021 the new show "Warships under sailing" opened. The show "My Marinemuseum" approaches the stories of individual objects of the marine -historical collection on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the Marinemuseum from a personal perspective of many committed colleagues.

Dorfkirche Gustow
The church of Gustow is a brick church from the 13th century and a popular destination.
The village church in Gustow is a Gothic parish church that was built around 1250. It was only in the 15th century that the main ship of the church was completed with vaults. In 1677 a parts of the church was destroyed in a fire and in the years 1708–1734 replaced by brick in baroque format. Near the church is a medieval Sühnestein - called "Mordewangen", which was set up to remember a slain preacher.

Ernst-Moritz-Arndt-Haus
The place owes its special awareness to the university professor, writer and publicist Ernst Moritz Arndt (1769 - 1860), who was born here.
The late baroque manor house was completed in its current form shortly before 1750. The building is single -storey, seven -axis and has a red crippled whale roof. The high granite base, modest jewelry elements and the adjacent parking wall give it a special charm.
The birthplace of Arndt is now home to the office of the national Ernst Moritz Arndt Society EV, which was founded in 1992, the regular readings, diverse lectures and art exhibitions. The house has long since become one of the most important Rügen meeting places for locals and guests, art and historical friends. Between 1997 and 2003 the Arndt Society carried out the restoration of the house and the adjacent park. The park invites you to linger and walk in every season. The hall can be rented for group or family celebrations. Special tours and lectures for groups are offered.

Ernst-Moritz-Arndt-Museum
The Ernst Moritz Arndt Museum is the oldest museum on the island of Rügen.
It was built in 1936/37 according to a design by the Berlin architect Erhard Schmidt. The founder of the museum was Ernst Wiedemann (1883 - 1958), teacher and cantor in Garz, deserved Rügen researcher and publicist. Since the inauguration, the museum has born the name of the writer Ernst Moritz Arndt (1769 Rügen - 1860 Bonn), who was born in the neighboring village of Groß Schoritz. The work and effect of the controversial political publicist offer plenty of material for a critical examination of literature and history.
Literary -inspired exhibitions also give our visitors insight into the cultural history of the city and the island of Rügen. The extraordinary museum and bibliophile collection forms the foundation of the content for a lively program of the museum, which as a cultural dialogue room always also asks questions to the present.

Large stone graves near Altkamp
The large stone graves Krakvitz include the "Teetsbusch" and the "Hexenbusch".
There are countless large stone graves near Putbus, which also includes the "Teetsbusch" and the "Hexenbusch" near Neukamp near the Greifswald Boddens. The large stone grave "Hexenbusch" on the Tempelberg is also referred to as a "bat". Both terms correspond to the associated field names. Four side stone pairs and three cover stones sunk into the burial chamber are still preserved from the grave itself. The Hünengrab is a funnel mug, ie approx. 5500-5000 year old, large dolm trees from three jochs. In the grave room, vertical stone slabs, so -called quarters, could be discovered.

Schlosspark Putbus
Although the Putbus Castle, the formerly stately seat of the princes of Putbus, was already equal to the ground in 1962, the beautiful castle park is still reminiscent of this magnificent time. Magnolia and mammoth trees adorn the English -style garden.
The park was created in 1804 by the city founder Wilhelm Malte I to Putbus, originally in French style. He was later continued in the style of an English landscape park. The classicist castle, which the park had been created, was unfortunately torn down in the 1960s. The orangerie, the Marstall, the Mausoleum, the parish and the castle church, as well as the monkey and bird house are still preserved.
Then as now, Putbus is not only known for his castle and the circus, but also through its scenic surroundings. Not surprising that even Caspar David Friedrich traveled to the Putbus area. He incorporated the impressions obtained into the painting "A look at Putbus" and "Landscape with Rainbow".

Circus Putbus
The name Putbus is probably of Slavic origin and is translated as "behind the lilac". In 1810, this place was expanded from the Prince Malte to a residence city in a classicist style with theater, pedagogue and white houses around the circus. A city from the drawing board with a park and animal enclosure and rose bushes in front of every house.
If someone does a trip, then he can tell something, says the vernacular. Often, however, travel pits for ideas that you take home with you and follow it. The architecture of the English town of Bath Prince Wilhelm Malte I. so that he put on a place in Putbus on Rügen based on its model: the circus putbus. Classicist buildings line this round space on which all streets run together. A strictly structured park fills out the inner ring of the square, the center of which is marked by a 19 meter high obelisk. The Circus Putbus is considered the last uniformly executed Rondellplatz in Germany. It was created from 1828 and was converted with classicist white houses until 1845, which also gave the city the nickname "White City".

Orangery Putbus
Looking art and enjoying art in the orangery in Putbus.
Since the 1970s, the Orangerie Putbus has been able to establish itself as a "artistic exhibition center on the island of Rügen", with a radiation in cultural policy, which is not only important regionally. After the reunification, the Kunstverein set exhibition accents until the mid -1990s, then the city of Putbus on its own. 2009 and 2010 was the orangery domicile of the “Gallery of the District”, which by the Kunstverein became an important address for the imparting positions of contemporary art. The Kulturstiftung Rügen, tenant in the orangery since 2011, pursues a balanced exhibition program in the sense of its founder Hans Marquardt (1920-2004), whereby its own exhibitions from the collection of the cultural foundation and the artists represented by them also play a role. Island Vilm
Vilm, the little one only a few hectares of sister island of Rügen, is known for the gnarled oaks and sunrises, which already captivated Caspar David Friedrich and Philipp Otto Runge. Together they wandered through the island and reported Goethe in letters about their beauty.
About 6,000 years ago, the approximately 94 hectare island of Vilm was created from moraine left by glaciers. It is still an untouched natural paradise today. Forests made of ancient oaks and huge beeches shape the landscape. The beginning of the Vilmer settlement can be traced back to the Stone Age. Once a sacred place of the Slavs, later a Christian pilgrimage site and medieval hermitage, in the 19th century, princely summer residence and soon afterwards meeting point of landscape painters - Vilm always had a great attraction. This is probably the most clear in painting. Over the past 200 years, the island has been visited by over 350 painters. The entire island has been a nature reserve since 1936.

Goat stones - large stone grave at GoBbin
The goat stones are part of a group of several megalith grave systems on the coastal path between Lanchen-Granitz and Groß Stresow
The goat stones or "victory stones" are an approximately 35 m long large dolm trap with a partly well -preserved trapezoidal cure bed and two large guard stones. When this impressive large stone grave was archaeologically examined in 1969, in addition to the typical finds from the funnel cup culture, seven Slavic urns also appeared. In the case of megalithic graves, a new use over longer periods - here over 4000 years - is not unusual in the form of turmoil.

The ferry connects the Moritzdorf district belonging to the municipality of Sellin west of the Baaber with the east of Baaber Bollwerk of the municipality of Baabe. A wooden rowing boat serves as a ferry, which is rored by the ferryman over which Baaber, which is only about 50 meters wide. The ferry offers a maximum of 15 passengers and is one of the smallest ferries in Germany. Bicycles and strollers are also transferred. This ferry connection has existed since 1891. Mühle Altensia
There were once more than 20 mills around Sellin.
One of them was the Bockwindmühle in altensia. In 2006 the last mill builder Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania was rebuilt the altensia mill. Old views and references from Bauer Erwin Schälke, who as a boy whistled the grain for cattle on the parental courtyard, served as the basis. The mill park draws attention to an old craft with an exhibition and events. In the tool shed, the mill story in the southeast of the island of Rügen comes back to life. On weekly baking days, tasty bread is baked for visitors in a wood oven according to old Pomeran recipes. The baking days can be found in the event calendar of the spa administration Sellin. Attention - failures can occur due to the weather!

Kurpark Friedensberg Sellin
The journey into the other world and a place of contemplation and silence.
A healthy spirit rests in a healthy body, says a Latin wisdom. It is also based on the concept of the spa park "Friedensberg". The aim of the "trim-dich path" for body, mind and soul is to achieve inner peace.
The body is a temple - in this place of silence it is put back in order. A staircase takes visitors from the hustle and bustle of everyday life into a world of Nordic deities. Guided by pointers, visitors have access to their own emotional world. The physicist Albert Einstein visited the Baltic Sea resort of Sellin in 1915. He knew that problems can never be solved with the same awareness that it created.
In order to drive your own development forward, guided self -diagnoses are offered. If you want to explore this place of power on your own, two useful aids are offered: the novel “The Secret of the Friedensberg” and “instructions for self -use”; Both available in the spa administration.

Sellin pier
The Sellin pier leads almost 400 meters out to the sea. The dream lock by the sea has been a landmark of the island of Rügen since 1998. Whether in the light -flooded palm garden, which extends over two floors, or the emperor pavilion, reminiscent of the twenties, always enjoy the clear view of the sea and the beach, surrounded by an eventful gastronomic atmosphere.
In 1906 the first lakeboth was built in Sellin with a length of 508 m. In July 1920, a restaurant on the bridge head burned down. In the winter of 1924 the Packeis tore away the landing bridge from the entrance hall to the bridgehead of the then lake bridge. A new pier was then built, but this was also the victim of the driving ice in the winter of 1941/42. In 1992 the foundation stone was laid for the new construction of the pier, the old and new landmark of Sellin. In 1998 the two-story T-shaped building was rebuilt. The school museum in Middelhagen is a museum on pedagogical development history on the Mönchgut peninsula. It was opened on August 1, 1986 in the former sexton house.
The school building in Middelhagen was built in 1825. For about 150 years, village school teachers have taught the Middelhäger children diligently. Today the children go to school in Göhren, Binz or Bergen. But the school building has remained. In the school museum you can experience in a historical lesson how lessons in a class school worked, how the school developed on Mönchgut, or how the living conditions of a cantor and village school teacher were designed.

Bakenberg - Mönchgut peninsula
At 66 meters, the Bakenberg is the highest elevation on the Mönchgut peninsula hill and gives unique views over the landscape of the Mönchgut to the island of Vilm.
The Mönchgut peninsula with its gentle hills, the bodden, bays and land tongues resembles a small island group. The Mönchgut was a popular travel destination in the times of the romantic. Here there were still picturesque motifs, reed -covered fishing houses, the mountains, the robulaic Pomeranian landscapes - and above all these views of the "Zickerschen Alpen" up to 60 meters high. The untouched nature of the peninsula already attracted romantic artists. In 1801, Caspar David Friedrich drew the Mönchgut coast from a hill on the northper near Göhren.

Museumshof Göhren
The Mönchgut Museumhof is the oldest and largest open -air museum on Rügen. While the house was built around 1850, the half -timbered barn dates from around 1680 and is therefore one of the oldest buildings in Rügen.
The Mönchgut Museumhof, the oldest and largest open -air museum on Rügen, consists of a complete peasant homestead with a residential building (currently museum management and administration, no visitor traffic possible!), Stable barn, car barn and pigsty. The court is documented from 1574. The oldest parts of the barn date from around 1680. After the free purchase from serfdom in 1847, the farm was managed by a fisherman, fisherman and pilot with a field area of 17.5 hectares. Today, arable and craftsman devices, agricultural machines, cars, carriages and sledges impressively demonstrate the arduous everyday life of the Mönchguter fishing farmers and country craftsmen. Exhibition topics are agriculture and harvesting, beekeeping and milk processing as well as traditional house construction. The herbal and flower garden underlines the unique charisma of the courtyard.

The Granitzhaus
The former forest and inn of the prince of Putbus has been home to an information center on the UNESCO biosphere reserve in Southeast Rügen since 2004.
The Granitzhaus on the island of Rügen is a former forest and inn from 1901, which today houses the information center for the Southeast Rügen Biosphere Reserve. It stands directly opposite the Granitz hunting lock near Binz. In 1726, the then prince to Putbus Moritz Ulrich I had a hunting house built on the open space in front of today's Granitzhaus. This consisted of a main house and two side pavilions. Four consecrated deer heads on the front of the main house pointed out the purpose of the building: hunting. In the main house, the princely hunting company took quarters during the hunting season.
The current exhibition in the Granitzhaus is interactive, it makes you curious and stimulates thinking. Visitors can expect a “treasury” with very special treasures from the region. In addition, there is an animation for the subsequent development of the region on a 3-D model, which also clearly shows the settlement history of Southeast Rügen and the development of the Baltic Sea.
Entry to the exhibition is free of charge.

Binz pier
With a length of 370 meters, the Binz pier on the island of Rügen is the second longest of Rügen's second longest after the Sellin pier.
The first Binz pier was built in 1902 as a 560 meter long building. In 1905 the bridge was destroyed in a storm flood. After reconstruction of the pier, she received the name Prinz-Heinrich-Brücke. On July 28, 1912, a balcony broke under the load of the numerous visitors when creating a steamer and tore 50 people into the water, 17 people were killed. In the winter of 1942, the weathered bridge was destroyed by ice gear, wind and waves. In the winter of 1942, the weathered bridge was destroyed by ice gear, wind and waves.
In 1994 a new, 370 meter long pier was built and inaugurated. From the Binz pier, ship trips along the chalk coast are possible, which enable a unique view of Rügen's landmark. Depending on the season, the departure times and frequency of ship trips vary. A boat trip in the morning along the chalk coast is highly recommended. The journey from the Binz pier takes about 2.5 hours.

Documentation Center Prora
The Documentation Center Prora provides information about the history of Prora and shows the only permanent exhibition in Germany with "power vacation" on the work and social history of the "Third Reich".
The Documentation Center Prora is located in the historic facility in Prora, which is planned as "KDF-Sebad Rügen". Prora belongs to the Baltic Sea resort of Binz and is located on the Prorer Wiek, the most beautiful bay of the island of Rügen. Here the approximately 4.7 km long system was built on behalf of the "Nazi community of strength through joy" between 1936 and 1939 and almost completed in the shell. The facility has been a listed building since 1992. In addition to the "Reich Party Day site" in Nuremberg, it is the largest closed architectural legacy of the National Socialist period. 20,000 people should go on vacation here at the same time. The "KDF bath of the twenty thousand" is not only an interesting example of the use of the architecture of modernity in National Socialism, but also a socially historically important testimony for the efforts of the Nazi regime, the workers whose parties and organizations were smashed in 1933 , to pacify and to win for war, habitat and racial policy. At the same time, Prora should be an expression of the proclaimed Nazi “People's Community” as well as as a constructive element to create it and thus act as a system stabilizing as a propaganda cluster. After the start of the war, police battalions were temporarily trained in Prora, which then came to drastic criminal missions behind the fronts.
In GDR times, Prora became a barracks of the NVA and thus also military restricted zone, and the largest building soldier location in the 1980s. Building soldiers did a weaponless military service and were exposed to serious work and harassment.
The Bundeswehr initially took over Prora after the turn, but left it after two years. After long clashes to adequately dealing with the historical system, a modern holiday home in Prora is created today.
The Documentation Center Prora presents the permanent exhibition "Power Vacation" with image and text boards, audio and video stations and shows a film on the history of the complex in continuous loop. Changing special exhibitions and events deepen the topics, guided tours on foot and by bike in the exhibition and in the grounds of the historical facility are offered. Projects, workshops, seminars and other formats are part of the educational program.

Feuersteinfelder in the Nature Protection Area Schmale Heide
North of the Binz Baltic Sea resort, between Prora and Mukran, the Feuersteinfelder is located in the nature reserve of the narrow Heide.
Its uniqueness makes the narrow heath with the stone fields a natural event of international rank. The nature reserve of the narrow heath is 40 hectares in size. The main component is 14 scree walls running in a row and about two kilometers long, parallel to the Baltic Sea coast. They sit down from 90 percent flints, the rest are crystalline beds of Nordic origin. The gray-white-shimmering flint potion is about one meter high. In between you will find a loosened vegetation with trees, shrubs, lichen and heather. The stone walls were thrown up 3,500 to 4,000 years ago by a number of strong storm floods. At that time, the sea level was up to one and a half meters higher than today. The little Jasmunder Bodden was an open sea bay at the time. The flint fields are a popular destination. A hiking trail is signposted from Mukran (parking lot "Feuersteinfelder").

The Dwasiedener Günengrab near the Hochuferweg near Sassnitz is particularly impressive with a length of 35 m, two very large guards and a well -preserved trapezoidal cunning bed, which surrounds the burial chamber in the form of surrounding stones.
The Dwasiedener Günengrab near the Hochuferweg near Sassnitz is particularly impressive with a length of 35 m, two very large guards and a well -preserved trapezoidal cunning bed, which surrounds the burial chamber in the form of surrounding stones. Caspar-David Friedrich was so fascinated by the grave that he held it in drawings and sketches. At the excavation carried out by Prof. Ewald Schuldt in 1970, various finds could be discovered primarily before and in the entrance to the burial chamber. These include ceramic shards, arrowheads, amber pearls, hatchets and other flint units. Another special feature of the grave are the wardrobes overturned and on one of the border stones attached, which still leave many questions open today.

Sacrifice stone from Quoltitz
North of the village of Neddesitz on Rügen is the sacrificial stone Quoltitz, which was first described in 1797 and was already none of the lesser than the romantic painter Caspar David Friedrich in a drawing.
This stone is one of the largest boulders of Rügen, on the surface of which a number of circular reductions (bowls), a clear gutter of explosive tests and traces for the removal of round stones that were probably processed into round mills can be discovered. The granite stone with a weight of 73 t has a size of 13.5 m in addition to Caspar David Friedrich, who made some drawings of the stone around 1806, other important painters of romanticism also represent this special stone
. The Findling served has not yet been clarified. Finds of circular flints next to another hitchhike stone near Lubkow can provide evidence of the creation of the bowls. The scarred flint balls fit exactly into the bowls of the stone, so that these may have arisen by rotating turns of the flint ball. Near the stone, a flinish fragment, a leaf tip, amber pearls and human remains, was found, which enable numerous speculations for the "sacrificial stone".

Ufer chapel Vitt
The octagonal bank chapel on the high bank of Vitt.
The Altenkirchen priest priest Gotthard Ludwig Kosegarten has initiated the construction of the Uferkapelle. In 1806, building the chapel was started after plans by the Pomeranian Landbaunte Rühs. The construction activity was interrupted by the Napoleonic wars and the Ufer chapel was only completed and consecrated in 1816. The chapel is a simple octagonal building. As early as 1852, the porch was grown with the sacristy. The pulpit altar, designed in romanizing and eclectic forms, only came into the chapel in 1882. Above the altar there is a copy of the painting "Der falling Peter" (Mt 14, 22-33) by Philipp Otto Runge (1777-1818) above the altar. The painting was commissioned in 1805 by Kosegarten as an altarpiece to his former Volgaster student. In 1990 the murals "People in Sturm", the Italian artist Gabriele Mucchi (1899–2002), one of the most important representatives of Italian realism, was carried out. The ecumenical banking services take place every last Sunday of the month at 3 p.m. in summer.

Bug at Dranske
The westernmost head of the Wittow peninsula on Rügen is called "bug". The "bug" begins south of the village of Dranske.
The Bug peninsula extends from Dranske over a distance of 8 km and an area of 500 hectares in the southwestern direction. It is only 55 meters wide in the narrowest point in the northeast, in the southwest the maximum width measures about 1,500 meters. To the west, the bow connects to the Baltic Sea. The northern part of the island of Hiddensee is upside down on the Baltic Sea. The Vitter Bodden borders the southwest of the bow. In the northeast, the Wieker Bodden and in the southeast of the Buger Bodden and the rassower electricity separate the peninsula from the island of Rügen. The southernmost tip is the buger hook. The southern part of the bug has been part of the Vorpommersche Bodden landscape National Park since September 12, 1990. The bug was a military restricted area for many decades. As a result, nature was able to develop somewhat undisturbed. Natural history guides are currently being carried out over the south bug. Registration takes place via the tourist office in Dranske.

Kreide bridge Wiek
The historical district bridge Wiek - landmark of the community and as a "floating promenade" new, attractive destination on the Wittow peninsula.
The district bridge is located directly in the renovated harbor facility of Wiek, between the south and north harbor, and has a formative effect of the entire port and townscape. The approximately 130 -meter -long and four and a half meter wide bridge was built in 1914 and was built as a loading ramp for bulk goods, here in particular chalk, as one of the first monolithic reinforced concrete structures in the Baltic Sea area in order to enable the envelope from the rail to the ship. Due to the First World War, despite completion, it has never been put into operation in the intended manner. The Wieker Kreidebrücke has become a floating, walk -in promenade that offers a wonderful view. The bridge has become a testimony of the past and has now become a modern tourist contact point. Rügen, but in particular the municipality of Wiek, has been richer in a destination.
Grant
The project is funded by the Community task "Improvement of the regional economic structure" by the Ministry of Economics, Infrastructure, Tourism and Work Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.
