Recknitztal
In the area of the Recknitz and Trebel valley, an impressive flora and fauna is waiting for you: explore it on foot, by bike, on the horse or in a canoe.
The beautiful Recknitz and Trebel valley is located in the geographical triangle between Rostock, Stralsund and Greifswald. Here, on the old historical border between Mecklenburg and Western Pomerania (Nehringer Brücke), away from the large tourist centers, on the coast and the Mecklenburg lakes, a vacation of a completely different way awaits you.
Diving into nature
The strelasund is a low of the sea that separates the island of Rügen from the mainland and at the same time connects the Baltic Sea with the Greifswald Bodden- calmer than the open sea, but no less lively: the entire area impresses with its variety of animal and plant species above and under water that needs to be discovered in different ways. Incidentally, small bays with sandy beaches invite you to linger. Here the motto fits: immersion in nature! And on the side of the path and in the middle you will find the most beautiful Vorpommers cities with the primal brick buildings.
Discover the paradise area of the strelasund and the Recknitz and Trebel valley!
The Recknitz
The Recknitz represents the historical border between Mecklenburg and Western Pomerania and is now "quite" a species -rich nature reserve and a wonderful holiday region.
In the past, it served as a trade route to the Baltic Sea. Today the Recknitztal is a landscape protection area that you can explore well on a cozy canoeing or raft tour. Leave all the immersion in original nature, everyday life and the urban hustle and bustle - all of this is possible here!
The 88.9 km river arises north of Teterow and flows into the Saaler Bodden near Ribnitz-Damgarten. In 1250 the Recknitz was first mentioned. The current name was derived from the Slavic word rêka (= river). From Ticino it is possible all year round to drive the Recknitz with the canoe.
In some places, the Recknitz reaches depths of up to 4 meters, but largely flows along very well -consuming, green river banks. In the course of many renaturation work, which made the area more attractive, a swamp and reedsis will grow from the planned bird sanctuary in some places of the Recknitz.
The Trebel
Less known than the Recknitz, but no less nice! The idyllic river Trebel is becoming increasingly popular with water hikers and anglers.
For the first time, the river was mentioned in 1258 at the awarding of the city rights by Wizlaw II. Today the river forms part of the southern border of the Vorpommern-Rügen district and represents a popular area for fishing and water sports vacations.
In Nehringen and Tribsees there are idyllic water hiking rest areas that are ideal starting cakes for an eventful canoe tour. From the Tribsees, the river is passable all year round. The many primeval electricity valleys in Western Pomerania cause the 70 km long Trebel to be connected by trenches and streams with several other waters. For example, there is a trench connection to the Recknitz. In Demmin, the Trebel finally flows into the Peene. Because of the weak current, the Trebel is also very suitable for canoe entrants and families with children.
One thing is certain: the Trebel is a beautiful blue ribbon, which winds past interesting forest shores and green meadows through crucial landscapes and large swamp areas. On the way, a species -rich flora and fauna impresses.

The Swedish king Karl XII. (1697-1718), during the Nordic War, in the defense of Stralsund in 1715 against Prussian, Saxon and Danish troops, often in a wall of the Frankentor. A memorial plate made of Swedish limestone in the wall is reminiscent of it with an inscription.
Karl XII. won many battles, but lost the decisive ones. So here too in Stralsund. With the misjudgment of the situation, it was his goal to restore the earlier balance of power in Swedish-Pomerania. On December 23, 1715, the city had to surrender after the king had left to Sweden to escape capture. After that, Stralsund temporarily became Danish before it later came back under the Swedish crown.

Wild kitchen
cooking on the open fire has been a fascinating matter for thousands of years. For many people, especially in today's world, the smell of the smoke and the crackling heat combine the embers of deeply rooted longings. Not only Western fans feel the dishes prepared in this way as particularly tasty: vegetables from the embers, fish nailed on the board and smoked warm, meat dishes from the rustic Dutch Oven, which once hung on the coaster of the settlers in North America. But also sweets can be prepared on the open fire ... At my outdoor cooking events, up to 8 courses are prepared on the open fire for several hours. Wherever it offers, we collect a few ingredients from nature.
Regular nature tours take place:
Every Thursday (from January to December): amber hike - in search of the gold of the sea (guided beach hike), from the Baltic Sea resort of Prerow
Every Tuesday & Friday (from May to September): In the footsteps of the beaver - evening mood on the Recknitz (guided canoe tour), from WWR Marlow
Please register by phone at 0152 57 55 46 00 or by email .
Sustainable on the move:
As a certified partner of the Vorpommer Bodden landscape National Park, my nature tours take place unmotorized. Whether with the canoe, bike or on foot: only muscle strength is required. In the cooking events, if it is possible, only regional and organic ingredients come to the campfire meal. In addition to avoidance of waste, garbage collecting is an indispensable tour component in my beach finds. We also support the climate waterder in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and buy new forest shares every year in the amount of 1 % of our annual sales. With the acquisition of a forest share of ten euros, trees can be planted on an area of five square meters in a Klimwald. If you are on the move with us, they also contribute to the growth of new climate water in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

Kranich Museum & Hotel - Gutshof Hessenburg
The Kranich Museum & Hotel in Hessenburg/Saal is a refuge in which architecture, art and nature enter into a unique symbiosis. In the historic manor house and park, contemporary works of art by international artists come into a dialogue between art and landscape inside. Behind old walls, individually designed apartments with modern inner life, a sauna and light -flooded conference rooms invite you to relax.
The Vorpommer Boddenlandschaft is a paradise for cranes who take a break here twice a year on their travels between Spain and Scandinavia. The elegant birds also pulled the art historian Dr. Bettina Klein in the secluded region, which has made the Kranich Museum & Hotel surrounded by wide fields and old trees from a former estate from 1840: a very special retreat, in which you completely calm and back in contact with unadulterated nature and yourself can come yourself.
The premises were designed by the New York artist and architect Alex Schweder. The result of the cooperation is a total work of art that integrates museum and hotel areas, preserves the structural time zones of the past and linked it to the present.
The Kranich Hotel
The Kranich Hotel was opened in 2015. In addition to the six -loving and cozy hotel rooms on the ground floor of the manor house have recently been added to the six lovingly and cozy with antiques, cast iron stoves and free -standing bathtubs on the top floor of the manor house, in which the artistic interaction of different style elements is particularly beautiful.
In the historic cellar vault you can relax in a Finnish sauna.
Other apartments are located on the grounds of the estate: in the garden house, up to six people can comfortably shove and look directly into the 4.5 hectare park from the terrace. There is another apartment for up to four people in the attic of the former court smithy.
The Kranich Hotel offers light-flooded event rooms for conferences, workshops, yoga retreats, small celebrations and weddings. In the house there is a branch of the Barth registry office. In addition to the three rooms in the main building, the Pittoreske Kranich-Café in the former court smithy for private celebrations can also be booked.
The Kranich Museum
The Kranich Museum occupies the entire upper floor of the manor house at a total of 400 square meters. Since its opening in 2011, Bettina Klein has been inviting international artists as part of an artist-in-residence program supervised by Alex Schweder: inside, which is located on site in performative or installative work in dialogue with the property and its history, its surrounding landscape and- Of course - deal with the eponymous cranes. The works of art in this way become part of the museum collection. The documented process of work is distributed in the hotel rooms. This creates a flowing transition between the museum and the hotel.
In the area
The manor is 2 km from the bathing beach of the Saaler Bodden. The Baltic Sea beaches of the Fischland-Darß-Zingst peninsula can be reached in 35 minutes by car. The Hanseatic cities Rostock and Stralsund can be reached in 40 minutes. Riding, cycling, bird watching, carriage rides, kitesurfing - and of course experience art.
